Do you ever just think, Man, I could really use a glass of wine. I think that often, so when I had a chance to ditch domesticity for a quick getaway to wine country, I jumped at the chance.
The amazing women who scheduled our visits chose 3 wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake. First up was Inniskillin Winery. Known for their award winning ice wines and table wines, it was a great place to start. Unfortunately, red wines do not agree with me (massive headaches) but white wines sure do. My favourite wine from Inniskillin was the 2018 Inniskillin Reserve Series Cabernet Franc Rose (incidentally sipping this while writing this blog post) with the 2017 Inniskillin Discovery Series P3 in a close second.
Next, we visited Jackson Triggs Winery. The tasting area was packed so it was so hard to get anything. I did try the Sparkling Brut, which wasn’t too bad. We also discovered that the lighting in the building was amazing and proceeded to take numerous group selfies which no doubt annoyed everyone else. If you ever want to visit, try and book something in advance. Also, be sure to check out the awesome summer concerts by great artists you’ve actually heard of.
We then moved over to Peller Estates Winery and had a private tasting. The wines were smooth, easy drinking summer wines. I ended up buying the Signature Series Ice Cuvee Rose. I don’t usually like Rose wines so it’s strange I enjoyed them so much this day. They also have amazing restaurants but make sure you make reservations ahead of time!
The point of the weekend was to celebrate our dear friend who is getting married in only a couple weeks but it was so much more than that. We had many laughs and shared many jokes. The most important thing is we were able to reconnect and enjoy each others company unhindered by frequent interruptions and demands by our little humans (whom we missed and shared our latest photos of).
